Most people have simple-origin fears - such as a fear of heights, or a fear of the dark, that stems from our biological survival response. Many of us also have idiosyncratic fears. These are more complex fears that have deeper psychological roots. The emotional experience today is an instinctive response that stems from the development of your conscious thought, and is based on the perception of survival. To your mind, your social phobia serves to keep you healthy. To you, it's a hindrance.
Treatment for basic fears is simple and is usually accomplished within a few sessions. Treatment for the deeper phobias requires a little more involvement. Our subconscious has accepted whatever psychological truths have been programmed into us through the experiences that we are now afraid of. For example, if as a child, you were lost in the department store and then were spanked for it, you may have a subconscious fear of being lost. This fear may be intense or mild – regardless, it interferes with your life and creates some degree of anxiety and stress.
The fears we experience may be intense phobic experiences, or they might manifest as feeling stuck in our lives, relationships or jobs. The underlying emotional issues must be resolved in order to completely clear the phobia. Hypnotherapy will allow the patient and practitioner to uncover these deep seated issues and will allow the patient to deal with them in a healthy way.
